Disembarkation Day by the Minute

The last morning of a cruise goes smoothly if you know when you will be outside with your luggage and how to get on from there. Choose the port, where you are going and your departure time — we work out the options and the time you have left.

In short

Ships usually arrive early in the morning and guests leave between about 7 and 10 a.m.: first those who carry their own luggage, then the groups with luggage tags. Add time to collect bags and leave the terminal, the journey, and the time you need at the airport: about 1.5 hours for flights within Schengen, 2.5–3 hours for long-haul. A flight before noon is usually a risk.

The evening before

  1. Put your luggage outIf you leave by group, tagged suitcases go outside your cabin door in the evening, usually by 10–11 p.m. Keep documents, medicines, chargers and tomorrow's clothes in your hand luggage.
  2. Check your accountThe statement for your cruise card usually arrives in the cabin or in the app. Sort out questions in the evening; in the morning there is a queue at guest services.
  3. Find out your timeThe colour or number on your luggage tag tells you when your group leaves. If you fly early, ask for an earlier group or carry your own bags.
  4. Download your ticketsBoarding pass, train or bus tickets — save them on your phone; the internet in the port can be weak in the morning.

Common mistakes

  • Booking a flight too earlyThe ship can arrive late and group disembarkation can drag on. A flight before noon is a risk, especially if the port is far from the airport.
  • Passport in the suitcase outside the doorLuggage put out the night before is only returned in the terminal. Keep your passport and morning things in your hand luggage.
  • Forgetting the distance from the pierIn some ports you still need a shuttle or a walk to reach the taxi and bus area — 15 to 60 minutes.
  • Counting on a taxi with no spare timeWhen thousands of guests leave at once, the taxi queue can be long. Allow 15–30 minutes or book a transfer in advance.

Common questions

What time do you leave the ship on the last day?

Usually between 7 and 10 a.m. Guests carrying their own bags go first, then the groups by luggage tag. Your group time is given the evening before.

What is self-assist disembarkation?

You do not put your suitcases out the night before; you carry them off the ship yourself in the morning. It lets you be among the first off — handy for an early flight.

How early should I be at the airport?

Usually 1.5–2 hours before flights within Schengen and 2.5–3 hours before long-haul flights. Check your airline's advice.

What is the earliest flight I can book?

Usually not before noon; from ports far from the airport or with an extra shuttle, after 1–2 p.m.

Can I leave my luggage and explore the city?

Some ports and stations have luggage storage. With an evening flight it is a good way to spend the day in town.

Times and costs are estimates based on public sources from 2025–2026; timetables, fares and disembarkation procedures depend on the port, cruise line and day. Check the operator's timetable before you travel. Reislite is an independent information site run by partners, not a website of inCruises.
