Even then, your points don't vanish — they convert into a smaller but permanent form of value.
The Three Account Statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active / Paying | Invoice paid within 30 days of billing. Full access, points earning normally. |
| Past Due | Invoice issued but unpaid — a temporary status lasting up to 30 days. Your existing points are preserved during this window. |
| Base (Lapsed) | No payment after 30 days. INsider Pricing and new point earning stop. Existing Reward Points convert to Base Points. |
What "Converting to Base Points" Actually Means
Base Points are what your Reward Points become once your membership lapses. They give you a fixed discount of up to 17% — noticeably less flexible than active Reward Points, which can cover up to 50% of a cruise. The upside: Base Points don't expire. The downside: they stop growing, can't be combined with active Reward Points on the same booking, and you won't earn new INsider Pricing discounts while your account is in this state.
Getting Back to Full Access
Reactivating a CLASSIC or PREMIUM membership means paying the full initial signup amount again — not just the missed monthly fee. STARTER memberships can't be reactivated at the STARTER level; reactivating moves you to CLASSIC or PREMIUM. One important note: Base Points do not convert back into Reward Points once you reactivate — they remain a separate, fixed-value discount.
The Practical Takeaway
A missed payment isn't a cliff — you have roughly a 30-day window before anything changes, and even after that, the value you've built up doesn't disappear. It just becomes less flexible until you're active again.
