Where to Cruise in September

For many experienced cruisers, September is the best month of the year: the sea in the south is at its warmest, the summer crowds are gone and the north turns gold.

The short answer: the Mediterranean for a warm sea without the crowds; the fjords and the Baltic for autumn colours and quiet ports; Alaska for the last weeks of its season.

What is special about September

  • Summer without the crowds. Once the school holidays are over, Mediterranean ports become much more pleasant.
  • The last fjord sailings. The fjord season ends in September; days are shorter and wetter, but the colours are beautiful.
  • The end of Alaska. September closes the Alaska season — the most rain, but also the quietest ports.
  • Repositioning ahead. From late September ships prepare to move south for the winter.

No flight needed

From Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Hamburg the last fjord cruises of the season leave in September, along with longer trips around the British Isles and Western Europe.

Booking a September cruise with points

Every way of paying in the club also works for sailings in September that are available in the club. You choose one per booking: the member price (INsider Pricing), roughly 17% below the listed price, or your Reward Points, which can cover up to half of the cruise price; they do not add up. To pay up to 100% with points, the booking must be made at least 270 days before departure — for a cruise in September, that is roughly December of the year before or early January — and you need to have accumulated enough points by then.
